What is the roll out

The roll out is the English term that identifies the moment of launching a new product or new software.

The roll out in computing and its characteristics

In computing, a roll out also defines a significant update, for example of software (think about updates to an operating system, famous are those from Apple on PCs or Android on smartphones).

The rolling launch, another term with the same meaning as roll out, is also a phase where the update or the new product is gradually distributed to customers.

When we talk about roll out, indeed, we think of a process that will slowly reach everyone but is not immediate.

The roll out is often preceded by various testing phases even in very limited geographic areas or on a selected number of users (the beta testers).

These precautions are fundamental for testing the new functionalities of the product or service that is intended to be deployed on a large scale.

Phases of this nature are essential to try to limit bugs and errors in the product or service that one wishes to promote.

The roll out in the world of marketing

When this expression is used in a marketing context, it refers to presenting a particular event and showcasing the new product or service during this setting.

Very often, the roll out in a marketing sense precedes the actual launch of the product or, in any case, the associated advertising campaign.

Such events often also lead to press conferences and PR opportunities.

The roll out is very important for completing the development phase of a product without, however, running into gross errors thanks to a more or less strict testing phase.
