The database is a collection of data stored in a computer for information management. These data effectively store, retrieve, and process information: thus, databases are nothing more than an organized archive of data. The purpose is to collect the data and then make it available to those who request it.

The data storage is divided into:

• Storage media: which ensure the permanence of data on the computer.
• Database server: which is a processor for data processing.
• Authorized users to access the data: meaning the physical users.

There are many types of databases and we can classify them with:

• Relational databases: they are organized in the form of sets of tables made up of columns and rows, and facilitate access to information.

Object-oriented databases: information represented in the form of objects.

Distributed databases: composed of at least two files located in different sites.

Graph databases: A graph database stores data about individuals.

How to create a database?

To create a database, you can use various programs, both free and paid. Once you have downloaded the program that is most effective for you, you can start:

• Create a table: this is where you insert the data for the archive;
• Establish the structure of the database: indicate the number of tables, how many fields per table, and what relationships the tables should have with each other;
• Create table fields: specify what each specific column will contain and in what format it should be;
• Once the tables are created, you can fill them with data to complete the database;
• Once the table is filled, it is possible to check its data content at any time.
