What is the audience

Audience is a group of people who have followed a television broadcast or radio program.

When one speaks of audience, it refers to all the viewers who have watched that type of program, movie, TV series, or radio broadcast.

The audience relates to important information in the media field that determines:

  • The prices for advertising broadcasts requested by broadcasters;
  • The analysis of viewer data;
  • The tastes of the viewers, so as to schedule the broadcasting schedule.

The standard metric for measuring television audience is the average minute rating, and for radio it is the average quarter-hour rating.

Types of Audience

The indicators used to calculate the audience are:

  • Laverage audience: the average number of advertising exposures;
  • L net audience: the net of contact duplications;
  • L useful audience: the part of the audience that represents potential consumers, namely the target, of the advertised product.

As for media planning, reference is made to the audience composition, which is the division into homogeneous groups that take on socio-demographic or psychological characteristics.
