What is Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a service that helps to monitor one's own website.

It is provided by Google, it is completely free and is capable of displaying statistics and data related to user access on your website through charts and tables to be as clear as possible.

Practically, you can see which are the most viewed pages of your site, how long users stay on your site, how many pages they visit on average, and if you have an e-commerce what are the most viewed and purchased products.

Google Analytics works by tracking data through a code called Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) which is installed on every page of the internet site.

Another important functionality of the GATC code is that it sets cookies on the visitor's computer that allow for storing information, obviously only if they are not disabled by the user.

The data are divided into five categories:

  • Real-time: shows what is happening in real-time on the website;
  • Audience: displays data about users on the site, visits, total number of pages viewed, average duration of stay on the site;
  • Acquisition: analyzes how users arrived at our site;
  • Behavior: analyzes how users behave on the site and their length of stay;
  • Conversions: analyzes how many users complete orders in an e-commerce setting.

How to read data from Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is set up in two columns, a menu on the left side of the page and a part that collects all the data where we find the three main areas of Google Analytics:

  • Audience: where you can see data containing user visits, the total number of pages, and the average time users spend on your site;
  • Acquisition: where you can see how users arrive at your site, such as through email or social media;
  • Behavior: where you can view the pages that have been visited by users during web sessions.

Before checking the data, it's important to set the time frame over which the data should be examined (for example, the last 30 days).

Analyzing data is very important because it allows you to observe user movements to understand which services are more effective than others, so you can invest in those.
