The KPIs (or Performance Indicators), acronym for Key Performance Indicator, are quantifiable measures used to monitor business progress towards previously established goals. In other words, KPIs measure the achievement of business objectives.
The various types of KPIs
The KPIs are divided into 4 categories:
- General indicators: measure the volume of work in process.
- Quality indicators: assess the quality of the outcome of a work process.
- Cost indicators
- Service indicators: measure the response time from the beginning of the process until its conclusion.
The evaluation criteria will never be objective, because each company has its own objectives and therefore
KPIs are different. The KPIs are expressed in numerical values; indeed, a good performance indicator must be quantifiable and measurable. For example, "Becoming the market leader company" is not a KPI because it is not measurable, whereas "Generating X contacts within 6 months" is a performance indicator.
Here are some examples of KPIs:
- The number of purchases made by users from a 3-month Facebook campaign
- The increase in turnover over a year
- Daily unique visitors to your website
- The average monthly order value on your e-commerce site
And so on.
