Track the minimum session duration (in seconds or minutes)

This guide shows you how to set up a tracking goal based on the minimum duration a user spends on a page of your website.


Step-by-step Procedure

1. Access the Tracking Project:

  • Log in to the Tracking Projects management area.
  • Click on the project you want to modify (or create a new one).

2. Go to the Goals section:

  • In the project editing screen, navigate to the section titled Goals.

3. Activate the "Session Duration" goal:

  • Locate the box related to the "Session Duration" goal.
  • If the goal is deactivated, click the Activate button in the box.

4. Configure the Minimum Session Duration:

  • Inside the "Session Duration" box, you will find one or more rules (identified as "Session").
  • If you want to add a new rule, click the "Add Session" button.
  • In the Minimum Duration* field, enter the numeric value (for example, 10).
  • In the Unit field, select the unit of measurement for the duration:
  • Select Seconds (to track, for example, 10 seconds).
  • Select Minutes (to track, for example, 10 minutes).

5. Enable Tracking on External Platforms (Optional):

  • If you want to send this session duration event to third-party platforms (such as Google, Facebook, etc.), locate the Third-party Tracking box.
  • Check the Enable checkbox.
  • The Third-party Tracking section will open where you can configure specific parameters for each platform (for example, event name).

6. Save Changes:

  • Complete your project configuration and save to activate the new session duration tracking rules.
