use shortcodes in the message content

Shortcodes are special placeholders (tokens) that are automatically replaced with recipient-specific information (such as first name, last name, or other personalized data) at the time the message is sent.

This guide shows how to find and use shortcodes within the message field.

Procedure to Insert Shortcodes

This procedure applies when you are creating or editing a WhatsApp message within an Automation (section Create WhatsApp / Edit WhatsApp).

1. Access the Message Section:

After opening the message creation or editing screen (under the header WhatsApp Settings), scroll down to find the table of available shortcodes.

2. Locate the Shortcode Table:

The complete list of usable shortcodes is displayed in a table above the message settings. Each shortcode is text enclosed in curly braces (for example, {first_name}).

3. Copy the Desired Shortcode:

Select and copy the exact shortcode text you want to use (including the curly braces {}).

4. Paste into Message Content:

Scroll to the text field labeled Message (or Message Content if you are editing a system template). Paste the copied shortcode exactly where you want the personalized information to appear.

Example:

If your shortcode for first name is {first_name}, write:

Hello {first_name}, your order has been shipped!

At send time, {first_name} will be replaced with the recipient's first name.

5. Save Changes:

Make sure to save the Automation or Template to apply the changes.

Note: If you are using a Custom Token (set in the Custom Token field), ensure that any personalized data associated with that token is properly managed so that shortcodes are replaced with expected values.
